04 – Un panier de souvenirs

A Basket of Memories

Sometimes the smallest gestures reveal the deepest feelings.

Two weeks. That was all it took for an unexpected encounter to become something I could never have imagined.

There were conversations, laughter, little habits and moments when everything felt completely natural. Without even realising it, a connection had formed that went far deeper than I could understand at the time.

But when the holiday ended and we had to say goodbye, the reality of that connection suddenly hit me. The journey home was incredibly emotional. I could barely understand why saying goodbye hurt so much.

We didn’t want that connection to simply disappear. So we put together a basket filled with small, personal things. Nothing expensive, just little reminders that showed we had paid attention, listened and remembered.

There was also a letter. Words for everything that was difficult to say out loud.

When the basket reached its destination, something unexpected happened. During a phone call, the emotions came pouring out. We realised that the feeling of missing each other was mutual, and what had started as a simple gesture suddenly changed our plans.

The next day, I was already on a plane.

Un panier de souvenirs is not just about saying goodbye or missing someone. Above all, it is about the meaning of genuine attention. About making someone feel seen, showing them that their presence matters and that they haven’t been forgotten.

While the previous songs mostly tell the story of a life built around thinking, working and taking responsibility, this song reveals another side of me: feelings that cannot be planned, controlled or explained.

When I think about that basket today, I barely remember the objects inside it.

I remember the tears. The longing. And everything that small gesture set in motion.

Sometimes a small gesture says more than a thousand words.

And sometimes, what was meant as a goodbye unexpectedly becomes the beginning of a new chapter.

Deux semaines seulement
Et pourtant tellement de choses
Des nuits à parler
Des silences qui nous reposent

Only two weeks
And yet so much happened
Nights spent talking
Silences that brought us peace

Tu es entré dans ma vie
Sans demander ta place
Et quelque chose en moi
S’est ouvert sans que je le sache

You came into my life
Without asking for a place
And something inside me
Opened without me even realising it

Je riais autrement
Je respirais autrement

I laughed differently
I breathed differently

En deux semaines à peine
Je ne me reconnaissais plus vraiment

In barely two weeks
I hardly recognised myself anymore

Puis il a fallu repartir

Then we had to leave

Et soudain
Tout ce qui semblait si simple

And suddenly
Everything that had seemed so simple

A commencé à faire mal

Began to hurt

Un panier de souvenirs
Tout un monde à l’intérieur

A basket of memories
A whole world inside

Des petites choses sans valeur
Qui racontaient pourtant nos heures

Little things of no material value
Yet they told the story of our time together

Un panier de souvenirs
Pour te dire sans savoir comment

A basket of memories
To tell you, without knowing how

Que même loin de nous
Tu restais là

That even far away from us
You were still there

Présent

Present

On y a mis ce que tu aimais
Tes habitudes, tes petits riens

We filled it with things you liked
Your habits, your little everyday things

Ce qu’on avait vu dans tes mains
Ce qui te faisait du bien

The things we’d seen you holding
The things that brought you comfort

Quelques bières
Tes cigarettes
Des goûts devenus familiers

A few beers
Your cigarettes
Tastes that had become familiar

Et puis une lettre
Avec tout ce qu’on n’arrivait pas à dire

And then a letter
With everything we couldn’t find the words to say

Ce n’était qu’un panier

It was only a basket

Mais chaque chose disait

But every little thing said

On t’a vu
On t’a écouté
On ne t’a pas oublié

We saw you
We listened to you
We haven’t forgotten you

Un panier de souvenirs
Tout un monde à l’intérieur

A basket of memories
A whole world inside

Des petites choses sans valeur
Qui racontaient pourtant nos heures

Little things of no material value
Yet they told the story of our time together

Un panier de souvenirs
Pour te dire sans savoir comment

A basket of memories
To tell you, without knowing how

Que même loin de nous
Tu restais là

That even far away from us
You were still there

Présent

Present

Des amis sont repartis là-bas
On leur a confié le panier

Some friends travelled back there
We entrusted the basket to them

Ils t’ont appelé
Tu devais venir le chercher

They called you
You were supposed to come and collect it

Tu as dit
“Je vous rappelle tout de suite”

You said
“I’ll call you right back”

Puis plus rien

Then nothing

Plus de réponse
Plus un mot

No more answer
Not a word

On a rappelé
Encore
Et encore

We called again
Again
And again

Et dans ce silence
Tout devenait trop grand

And in that silence
Everything became overwhelming

Puis tu es revenu

Then you called back

Et ta voix n’était plus la même

And your voice wasn’t the same anymore

Tu pleurais

You were crying

Pas quelques larmes retenues

Not just a few tears held back

Tu pleurais vraiment

You were really crying

Parce que ce panier
Avait ramené ces deux semaines

Because that basket
Had brought those two weeks back to life

Parce que nous te manquions

Because you missed us

Comme toi
Tu nous manquais

Just as much as
We missed you

Un panier de souvenirs
Tout un monde à l’intérieur

A basket of memories
A whole world inside

Quelques objets
Et tellement de cœur

A few objects
And so much heart

Un panier de souvenirs
Qui avait traversé la distance

A basket of memories
That had travelled across the distance

Et dans tes larmes
J’ai compris

And in your tears
I understood

Que ce que j’avais senti
N’existait pas seulement en moi

That what I had felt
Didn’t exist only inside me

Le lendemain
J’ai pris l’avion

The next day
I took a plane

Je suis retourné vers le sud

I went back south

Pas pour chercher une réponse
Pas pour comprendre davantage

Not to search for an answer
Not to understand any more

Je savais seulement
Que je devais revenir

I only knew
That I had to go back

Te retrouver

To see you again

Et te ramener avec moi

And bring you back with me

Un panier de souvenirs
Tout un monde à l’intérieur

A basket of memories
A whole world inside

Il devait simplement te rejoindre
Il a changé la suite de l’histoire

It was only meant to reach you
But it changed what happened next

Un panier de souvenirs
Des bières, une lettre, quelques riens

A basket of memories
Some beers, a letter, a few little things

Mais parfois
Ce sont les plus petites choses

But sometimes
It’s the smallest things

Qui disent le mieux

That say it best

Combien quelqu’un compte

How much someone means to you

Aujourd’hui encore
Quand je pense à ce panier

Even today
When I think of that basket

Je ne vois pas les objets

I don’t see the objects

Je vois tes larmes

I see your tears

Je revois ces deux semaines

I see those two weeks again

Et l’avion du lendemain

And the plane I took the next day

Ce panier
N’était pas un adieu

That basket
Wasn’t a goodbye

C’était déjà

It was already

Le chemin du retour

The road back
