Phénix V — Album Track 02
Album: Ce qu’il reste de moi
Official release: October 21, 2026
I Carried the World
When does something you do naturally become a burden you don’t even realize you’re carrying?
I’ve always been someone who thinks ahead. Whenever a problem arose, I was often already looking for a solution. I saw possibilities where others saw obstacles, and I usually had several plans in mind before anyone even asked. To me, there was nothing particularly remarkable about it. It was simply how my mind worked and how I approached life.
Being independent, taking responsibility, and finding solutions were things I genuinely enjoyed. They gave me a sense of satisfaction. I liked understanding how things worked, anticipating what might happen, and finding ways to make the seemingly impossible possible. People knew they could count on me, and most of the time, they could.
But there was another side to something that had always felt so natural.
When you’re always the one who finds a solution, there comes a point when people stop asking whether you can or even want to take care of things. They become accustomed to you handling everything. And you become accustomed to needing no one. Not necessarily because you don’t trust others, but because you’ve simply never learned to do things differently.
It was only much later that I began to understand that my ability to think ahead wasn’t just a talent. It had also become a way of constantly being prepared. Even when nothing was wrong, my mind kept searching for what might happen, what could go wrong, and how I would deal with it if it did.
That realization changed the way I saw myself. Not because my independence was something negative, or because everything I did came from difficult experiences. My resourcefulness and my ability to find solutions are still part of who I am, and they are qualities I value. But I began to recognize that there is a difference between being capable of carrying something and feeling that you have to carry everything.
Je portais le monde is about that difference.
About the person everyone could rely on, who always kept going and who rarely stopped to wonder who might be there for him. Not as a criticism of others, but as a reflection on how naturally I had come to occupy that role.
While the first song on the album looks back at the child who knew his own world, this second song tells the story of the adult who learned to keep that world standing on his own.
Perhaps that is the most important realization behind this song: being strong doesn’t mean having to do everything alone. And sometimes, true strength begins when you allow yourself not to have a solution for everything.

J’entendais avant les autres
Ce qui allait tomber
I sensed before anyone else
What was about to fall apart
Je voyais déjà la sortie
Avant même le danger
I could already see the way out
Before danger even appeared
Toujours un plan dans la tête
Une réponse avant la question
Always a plan in my head
An answer before the question
Je n’appelais pas ça survivre
C’était juste ma façon
I didn’t call it surviving
It was simply my way
Je réparais
Je prévoyais
Je trouvais toujours comment
I fixed things
I planned ahead
I always found a way
Et quand quelque chose brûlait
J’étais déjà dedans
And whenever something was burning
I was already in the middle of it
On disait
“Tu trouveras bien”
They would say
“You’ll figure something out”
Alors je trouvais
So I did
Encore
Et encore
Again
And again
Je portais le monde
Comme si tout dépendait de moi
I carried the world
As if everything depended on me
Je portais le monde
Sans jamais demander pourquoi
I carried the world
Without ever asking why
Je savais sauver
Réparer
Trouver demain avant aujourd’hui
I knew how to save
To repair
To find tomorrow before today
Je portais le monde
I carried the world
Et personne
Ne portait le mien
And no one
Carried mine
Je n’attendais rien de personne
Je savais faire tout seul
I expected nothing from anyone
I knew how to do everything on my own
Une porte fermée
Je cherchais déjà une autre
A closed door
And I was already looking for another
Un problème
Dix solutions
One problem
Ten solutions
Une chute
Un nouveau plan
A setback
A new plan
Je pouvais tenir des années
Sans demander une seule main
I could keep going for years
Without ever asking for a helping hand
On appelait ça être fort
Être capable
Être brillant
They called it being strong
Being capable
Being brilliant
Mais personne ne voyait
Que même au repos
Je restais vigilant
But no one could see
That even when I rested
I remained on guard
Toujours regarder
Toujours prévoir
Always watching
Always thinking ahead
Comme si fermer les yeux
Pouvait tout faire tomber
As if closing my eyes
Could make everything collapse
Je portais le monde
Comme si tout dépendait de moi
I carried the world
As if everything depended on me
Je portais le monde
Sans jamais demander pourquoi
I carried the world
Without ever asking why
Je savais sauver
Réparer
Trouver demain avant aujourd’hui
I knew how to save
To repair
To find tomorrow before today
Je portais le monde
I carried the world
Et personne
Ne portait le mien
And no one
Carried mine
Puis je suis devenu celui
Qu’on appelle quand tout va mal
Then I became the one
People call when everything goes wrong
Celui qui trouve
Celui qui tient
Celui qui ne tombe jamais
The one who finds a way
The one who holds on
The one who never falls
Et plus j’étais indispensable
Moins je savais qui j’étais
And the more indispensable I became
The less I knew who I was
Parce qu’être utile
Était devenu
Ma façon d’exister
Because being useful
Had become
My way of existing
Mais qui suis-je
Quand il n’y a plus rien à réparer ?
But who am I
When there’s nothing left to fix?
Quand personne ne demande
Que je vienne tout sauver ?
When no one asks me
To come and save everything?
Que reste-t-il
Quand je pose enfin mes mains ?
What remains
When I finally let my hands rest?
Quand le monde peut tourner
When the world can keep turning
Sans moi
Without me
Je ne savais même pas
Comment ne rien faire
I didn’t even know
How to do nothing
Sans me sentir coupable
Without feeling guilty
Je portais le monde
Comme si tout dépendait de moi
I carried the world
As if everything depended on me
Je portais le monde
Même quand je ne tenais plus droit
I carried the world
Even when I could barely stand
Je savais sauver
Réparer
Porter demain jusqu’à la nuit
I knew how to save
To repair
To carry tomorrow into the night
Je portais le monde
I carried the world
Et personne
Ne portait le mien
And no one
Carried mine
Toujours une solution
Toujours un chemin
Always a solution
Always a way forward
Toujours debout
Always standing
Toujours seul
Always alone
Je portais le monde
I carried the world
Et je croyais
Que c’était ça
And I believed
That this was what it meant
Être bien
To be okay
